When the oppositional crowd asks, “tell us plainly, are you the Messiah” Jesus responds with a description of shepherds and sheep. The plain answer is not about ‘who’ to follow, but about ‘how’ to be in relationships of love and care that recognize people (us) when we are in need. We reject a religion of empire to embrace a religion of relationships.
