Leonardo da Vinci’s partially finished masterpiece, The Adoration of the Magi, reflects the essence of Matthew’s nativity narrative: Christ is born into a world filled with violence and darkness. And the light that shines is the love of a mother for her child and the adoring gaze and gifts of strangers.
