Celebrating the Feast Day of Melania the Elder

The Fourth Century Roman Christian matron, and seeker for God, is remembered as a Desert Mother and servant to the poor. But she was so much more. A brilliant theologian and philosopher, she used her vast fortune to build monasteries and support this new movement. She was a fierce spokesperson for what she believed during those divisive years after the Council of Nicea. She persevered.
