What do we mean when we say Christ is the Good Shepherd? One answer is that God has dwelt among us long enough to smell like us, to comprehend us like a faithful shepherd comprehends the flock. Ours is a God who dwells in the muck and the grass with the herd, sleeps with us under the stars, and who, in every sense, becomes one of us.
