The Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ

We often think of baptism as a personal, private, spiritual act, with cooing babies and doting godparents. But the first baptisms were public, messy, and undeniably political. Baptism said loudly and radically that we are no longer children of empire, and it may increasingly say that again today.
