Established in 1892, Church of Our Saviour has its earliest roots in love.

History

Ellie Avery Reed founded the church in loving memory of her husband, Reverend Frederick Reed. What began as simple worship gatherings in the Reed family’s summer cottage continues today as a beloved Episcopal community grounded in faith, celebration, and service.

COS has evolved along with Mill Valley in vibrancy, love of our surrounding nature, fostering of the arts, and the care of our broader community. True to Mill Valley’s eclectic spirit, we celebrate our Episcopal tradition while embracing the diverse spiritual journeys that make up our collective experience.

We continue to grow as a community founded in compassion, creativity, and spiritual depth. Whether you’re seeking a quiet moment of reflection, meaningful worship, or genuine connection, you’ll find a welcoming home here.

COS is an open and inclusive congregation where all are truly welcome. We celebrate broad, compassionate Episcopalian faith and traditions through the following rituals and practices:

  • Sunday Worship with thought-provoking preaching and inspiring music
  • Children & Youth Programs
  • Spiritual learning and questioning, and small group gatherings
  • Community engagement, outreach, and service
  • Interfaith programs
  • The rituals for weddings, baptisms, funerals, and life milestones
  • Spaces for community events and celebrations

Our church facilities offer a serene outdoor labyrinth, a reception room, and sacred space for prayer amid the natural beauty of Mill Valley.
