A handful of us met today and share the following updates, with *indicating items we recommend sharing with the diocese.

Present: Elaine, AnnaMarie, Dave, Betsy, Anna

Elaine is on the Executive Council — Jane is liaising with Exec Council, clarifying the text of the resolution, with Richard Helmer, and another representative of the council. NEXT ACTION: When is the revision expected to be ready?

Southern Alameda: Red Cross donation link posted in local newsletter and DioCal website; newsletter invited donations to ERD. *We need clarity about amount of donations are to each of those, and advise that we report amount and encourage donations in diocesan comms.

St. James hosting an AED and CPR class in September. Others may attend and Elaine is willing to approach Life Support Services to extend to other congregations.

*Resilient Diamond Heights has prepared brochures on Planning Home Evacuation, Sheltering During a Disaster, Navigating Heat Emergencies, Food Safety in Power Outages and Sanitation during disasters. Betsy will review them again, and if applicable to a broad audience, we recommend posting them on the diocesan website and sharing links one at a time in DioCal News.

Betsy is currently investigating fireworks policy in San Francisco to mitigate ill effects with a civil grand jury investigation.

ALERT Media: New submission form was created due to errors in the first one while someone was using it. Light participation from Peninsula, no participation from Alameda. *We need to embed the form on the diocesan website and develop process for ongoing updates, both annual refresh and new hires. AnnaMarie to invite Maggie Foote from All Souls to join us. Elaine will send her compiled list of emails from Alameda to AnnaMarie to nudge them. We recommend sending a test message immediately after Labor Day. NEXT ACTION: AnnaMarie, Jane, Stephanie and Anna should meet off-line to establish administrative procedures and roles.

Anna suggests developing report material for Diocesan Convention, specifying areas of work in the past year.

*Recommend encouraging donations to ERD for Haiti response, and EMM for Afghanistan. We wonder what relationships might exist between Fremont area congregations and the large Afghan community.

There are levels of Red Cross certification for shelter and other emergency response for churches. St. Aidan’s and St. James both have emergency response agreements. We wonder what capacity DioCal churches have for response, either now, or given the Delta variant, in the future.

For future meetings, we think that polls are marginally helpful. Anna will schedule a regular rotation, and send the invitation.

I wanted to share notes from today’s meeting and a request to indicate your availability to meet by 8/6 using this doodle poll.

Present: Jane, Anna, Betsy, Hannah, AnnaMarie

The proposed Diocesan Convention resolution has evolved to be a courtesy resolution commending the past and future work of the disaster prep/response team with the Executive Council; imagine ongoing relationship and reporting to the Executive Council. They may recruit Disaster Preparedness and Response Team members. Elaine Vallecillo-Miller, who serves on the Executive Council, might have a role that is formalized as a liaison between the two bodies.

Stephanie Martin-Taylor will rejoin the team as the representative from the Bishop's staff. Anna Rossi also serves on the Board of the SFIC. Betsy Eddy serves as the Resilient Diamond Heights Coordinator. Jane McDougle serves as the liaison to Episcopal Relief and Development. Hannah Cornthwaite serves as the liaison to SFSU Chaplaincy.

We would also aim to have representation and liaisons from each deanery, as well as relationships with the Red Cross and SFCARD.

Meetings will continue on a monthly basis on Zoom. In April we discussed optimal times being later in the month, in the afternoon on a Wednesday or Thursday. Anna will doodle poll the group.

ERD Lamplighter newsletter is an excellent resource and will be made more widely available to the diocese.

Alert Media: Welcome AnnaMarie Hoos. AnnaMarie will work with Jane to finish nudging any institution that has not yet provided contacts. We should aim to test in the second week in August to confirm that ALERT notifications are received.
