This weekend has me thinking about the great debt we all owe to both the founders of our republic and also to those who called us to make their bold vision for freedom more inclusive of women, descendants of enslaved people, and people of diverse abilities and religions. Much like our Holy Scriptures do, our country can honor the voices of both leaders and prophets. What we Christians cannot do is substitute a narrow version of our faith for our hard-won Constitution. Yet there are some from our faith tradition who would tell us we ought to.
This Sunday after our 10:00 Eucharist, join me for a brief video and discussion of Christian Nationalism, a dangerous ideology that equates Christianity with authoritarian governance by an ethnically exclusive group of male leaders. If you think this sounds a bit like the Handmaid’s Tale, you’re not entirely wrong. Learn about the risks Christian Nationalism poses to our country, and how to practice a more excellent way of democracy as a person of faith.

Sunday Forum: Christian but not Nationalist
Join Rev. Julia on Sunday, July 5, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room for a brief video presentation and conversation exploring Christian Nationalism- what it is, why many Christians view it as a distortion of the Christian faith, and how it can impact our democracy and constitutional republic. Together, we’ll also reflect on the many positive and meaningful ways to celebrate our country and its history.
